CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS — Corpus Christi police are investigating a fight that left a 78-year-old woman in critical condition.

The assault happened just after 7 p.m. Thursday in the 400 block of Stages Drive near South Alameda Street.

According to police, a 45-year-old female, who is a relative to the victim, went to a home and a confrontation broke out. After the assault, the 45-year-old woman walked away from the home, while the victim walked over to a neighbor's house to call 911.

When police arrived at the scene, they found the 78-year-old woman unconscious and not breathing. CPR was started as medics were called out to the scene.

The victim was transported to the hospital. Corpus Christi Police Lt. Micheal Pena said the victim was listed in critical condition.

The suspect is being interviewed by police.

"This is not a random act of violence," Pena said. "The victim and the suspect knew each other."

There is no word what charges the suspect will face.
