CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Officials have released the names of the 23-year-old killed in a gas-station shooting Tuesday night, and his alleged shooter.
Corpus Christi police are investigating a shooting that left 23-year-old John Eric Martinez dead, and 23-year-old Daniel Adame in custody.
Police said the victim and a male suspect got into a confrontation outside of a convenience store at the intersection of Weber Road and S.P.I.D. at 10 p.m. Tuesday when it turned physical. The fight escalated, and several gunshots were fired.
Police say Martinez was struck several times and ran from the location, toward CCPD traffic officers working in the nearby intersection. He later died at the hospital.
The suspect fled the scene as an officer administered first aid, according to police.
Investigators said the suspect later called 911. He was taken into custody for further questioning and later charged with murder.
It's unclear if the two men knew each other or what might have sparked the argument.
