CORPUS CHRISTI — The Bailando International Dance Festival celebrates its 20th anniversary now through Saturday at the Performing Arts Center on the campus of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
The event will host master classes in a variety of dance styles, taught by internationally renowned professionals in the field of dance, represented by approximately 14 universities and cities nationally and internationally.
The festival also hosts two evening concerts at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday that will celebrate aspiring choreographers and their original works, to be adjudicated by a panel of dance experts.
Saturday night is the Gala Celebration concert, filled with contemporary and classical dance works performed by international guest artists Danza Universitaria and IMAGODANZA from Costa Rica, Ad Deum Dance Company from Houston, Ballet San Antonio, Corpus Christi Ballet, Alcorta's Compañía de Danza Folklórica from Corpus Christi and a special performance by Corpus Christi’s local dance students from area schools.
The Bailando International Dance Festival was founded in 2000 by Nancy Sulik, artistic director of Concert Ballet, and Jilissa Cotten, director of dance at TAMUCC, as part of Corpus Christi Concert Ballet’s Dance Initiative.
