CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — We have already reached Week 10 of the high school football season.
There are just two weeks of the regular season left.
This week’s featured Friday Night Fever game is a battle of two old district rivals.
This week’s Fright Night Fever Game of the Week takes us to Phil Danaher Field in Calallen where the Wildcats will hook up with Alice in a key District 15-5A Division II showdown.
The undefeated Wildcats can clinch at least a share of the district title with a victory.
They are coming off a hard-earned 20-3 triumph over Gregory-Portland.
The Coyotes lost their first game last week at home to San Antonio Southside, 28-18.
So Alice enters this huge ballgame needing a win to keep pace with the Cats.
And while on the other side of the ball, the Wildcats know it won’t be an easy walk in the park.
“They are very explosive on offense and very aggressive on defense,” Calallen coach Phil Danaher said. “We know that we are going to have to control the ball a little bit more, but we are also going to throw the ball a little more.
“We are just going to have to feel them out and see how they play. If they are going to commit a lot to the line of scrimmage, they could leave themselves open to throwing.”
Calallen quarterback Jarrett Garza expects a big challenge from the Coyotes.
“They are fast on defense, but I think we will do well,” Garza said. “We are going to pass more and do a lot of good things to keep their offense off the field.”
Productive Calallen inside linebacker/running back Grayson Leal is looking forward to Friday’s big game.
“Alice is a really good team and it's exciting because we are two of the best teams in the district,” Leal said. “So we know it's going to be a really good game. We are excited to play them.”
