CORPUS CHRISTI, TX — GROW Local South Texas is partnering with the Texas Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (TOFGA) to host a Food Producers Workshop Thursday at the Del Mar Center for Economic Development (3209 S. Staples St.).

This workshop will feature four educational sessions, beginning at 8 a.m. with a trip to Srubar Cottage farm.

Following the tour, the first session starts at 10 a.m. and will cover the topic of food safety management. This talk will be of interest to market gardeners or anyone else looking to grow their own food or sell their produce.

After a break for lunch, the second session will focus on regenerative agriculture, which is a set of farming practices and principles that focus on increasing biodiversity, rejuvenating the soil, and increasing resilience to climate change. Discussions will center on what these practices entail and how to best implement them.

The third session includes a talk on local food legislative updates. This should be helpful to those who have been curious about or are confused by recent legislative changes regarding food policy. This session will be particularly important for cottage food and value-added food producers in Texas.

The final session is a talk on financial health and will appeal to anyone who needs guidance in the business aspect of their food or agriculture operation.

Activities should conclude by 6 p.m.

Tickets are $10 for GROW Local South Texas members and $15 for non-members and can be purchased online at www.growlocalstx.com. For more information, email info@growlocalstx.com or call (361) 548-3373.
