An estimated 46% of car and booster seats (59% of car seats and 20% of booster seats) are misused in a way that could reduce their effectiveness, according to the Centers for Disease Control.

Protect your child by taking advantage of free car seat inspections today at the Texas Department of Transportation office on South Padre Island Drive.

Driscoll Children’s Hospital with TxDOT and the Corpus Christi Police Officer Association will hold the event from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at 1701 SPID in Corpus Christi.

Parents are invited to bring their car seats and receive instruction on proper use and safety.

The hospital says parents and caregivers will receive hands-on instruction from a certified child passenger safety technician, who will examine each car seat for correct use, installation and recalls.

Texas law on child safety seats requires all kids younger than 8 years old, unless they are taller than 4 feet 9 inches, to be properly restrained in a child safety seat.
