GROW Local South Texas is hosting their 5th Annual Bawktoberfest, the only urban backyard chick coop tour in Corpus Christi!

The goal of Bawktoberfest is to, “teach people that it is legal and self-sufficient to have backyard chickens,” says GROW Local STX Executive Director, Aislynn Campbell.

The tour will begin at the SouthSide Farmers Market off of Everhart. Tour guests will be given a map showing the 6 homes in the area that have chicken coops. Between 12-2 p.m. guests are invited to drive to all 6 coops to learn about the different ways you can create your own coop. Starting at 2 p.m. the Bawktoberfest Garden Party will kick off at the Laerning Garden at Tom Graham Park.

“We think it’s extremely valuable in our community,” says Campbell, “to make sure that households have options to number one, decreasing the amount of waste that they’re creating. And number two, to possibly create some income  in their household with different kinds of gardening.”

The fee for the tour is $5 for GROW Local STX members and $10 for non-members. Children under 12 are free.
