For those who have never considered becoming a foster or adoptive parent, there may be no better chance to do so than now.

On Monday, the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) will host a free information meeting for prospective parents at their office on 4201 Greenwood Drive. In addition to a presentation on the process of becoming a foster or adoptive parent, there will also be a chance to ask questions of the DFPS staff.

In Nueces County, there are currently 92 children who are ready for adoption. In south Texas, that number grows to 341.

Those who wish to become foster or adoptive parents may be single or married, and must be at least 21 years of age and financially stable. Although there are other requirements, this is the place to start.

Plan to attend either of the free information meetings (11 a.m. or 6 p.m.) Monday at the Greenwood & Horne Rd. office.
