Grab the bait and get ready to catch the big prize, as the Del Mar College Foundation and LVN Inc. (a local engineering, architecture and surveying company) partner once again to host the 5th annual "Stringers for Scholarships" Fishing Tournament to raise funds for student scholarships.

The two-day event opens with a Captain’s Party from 5:30 to 7:30 PM on Friday, June 8th at Marker 37 (13317 South Padre Island Drive) with food, drinks and a sneak peek at raffle items. New this year, the party will include a Calcutta-style auction.

The tournament includes guided and non-guided divisions, and fishing runs from 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Saturday, June 9th.

Individual awards for first, second and third place will be given for the following categories: heaviest single speckled trout, heaviest single redfish and heaviest flounder. A single team award will be given for the heaviest stringer not to exceed two trout, one redfish and one flounder. The event also features side pot payouts for an additional fee at registration.

To access team entry fee, sponsorship and other information and to register, visit www.delmar.edu/foundation and click the "Stringers for Scholarships" button.

The tournament typically attracts 45 teams. Last year, over $45,000 was raised to assist DMC students with pursuing their dreams. Overall, the DMC Foundation awarded $1.6 million in scholarships to over 1,500 students in 2017.
