Parkinson’s Disease presents a tough road for anyone to live with, but a local support group aims to make things a little easier.

On Saturday, a local support group for Coastal Bend residents held a big fundraiser to help those facing the disease. The event also benefits the Rock Steady Boxing Group, which helps those with Parkinson’s exercise and keep moving so their bodies don’t stiffen up.

The fundraiser helps offset the costs of travel and medical expenses of those with the disease in the Coastal Bend, from Kingsville to Rockport.

"I was diagnosed in 2009, and here, Corpus is the 8th largest city in Texas, and yet we do not have a movement specialist here in Corpus," Andy Morales, a chairperson with the fundraiser, described.

Organizers said the lack of medical specialists in our area often means those with Parkinson’s must travel to places like Houston, San Antonio or Dallas to see a neurologist.
