Have you found your mask and cape yet? We are less than a month away from the 13th Annual CASA Superhero 5K Run/Walk.

Superheroes are needed to show their support for CASA of the Coastal Bend at the event, which is sponsored in part by KRIS 6 News. It will take place Saturday, May 5th at Heritage Park (1581 N. Chaparral St.) beginning at 8:00 AM. As always, those who participate are encouraged to dress for the part!

In addition to a kids 1K, a 5K and a 2-mile walk, this year’s gathering will once again feature a Superhero Costume Contest (up to 4 yrs., 5-9 yrs., 10-15yrs., Adults and Best Group) judged by KRIS 6 News Sunrise Anchors Jennifer LiraMike Gillaspia and Maclovio Perez.

A new feature will be the Pet Costume Contest, judged by Nicholas Nilest (Corpus Christi Rehabilitation Hospital), Scott Humpal (Humpal Physical Therapy) and Paulette Guajardo (Corpus Christi City Council).

Over $4,000 in prizes will be up for grabs.

Proceeds from this race go directly to CASA of the Coastal Bend, whose mission is to speak up for and find permanent homes for foster children in crisis throughout Nueces, San Patricio and Aransas Counties.

CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) volunteers gain a firm understanding of a child’s case and serve as the “eyes and ears” of the judge who ultimately decides that child’s fate. CASA volunteers work to find each child a safe, permanent home as quickly as possible. Last year, advocates were only able to serve half of the children in foster care.
