UPDATE (11:30 a.m. 12/23/2022):

A downed power line may be to blame for a grass fire on North Padre Island on Thursday night, officials from Nueces County Emergency Services District No. 2 said.

The fire took place near Commodores Drives and Aquarius Street.

Fire crews from Corpus Christi, Annaville, Nueces County Emergency Services District's 1, 2 and 3, along with the Port Aransas Fire Department were called in to battle the blaze.

Crews were able keep the fire from spreading to any near-by buildings.

In all, a little less than two acres burned.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Fire crews are out on the island battling a grass fire. Officials responded to the fire at around 8:30 p.m.

There are no structures that have been damaged.

Crews are making good progress in getting the fire under control, despite some strong winds.
