ALICE, TEXAS — As the number of COVID-19 cases grows, more healthcare facilities across the South Texas area are offering mobile testing.

These drive-up testing sites are not only here in Nueces County, but also in Kleberg and Jim Wells County.

Staff at the Alice Pediatrics Clinic is now performing coronavirus tests for children.

“The one asset that we have to really stop the spread is by testing. The more we can test, the more we can figure out how far this virus has spread, get these people identified, isolated, and the medical care they need,” said pediatrician Dr. Erik Nisimblat.

In order to protect its staff from direct exposure to potential COVID-19 cases, the clinic designed an additional barrier to actually separate the provider and patient.

“We developed a barrier shield with an incorporated glove system so we can get those tests done. We actually have two of those stations so we can disinfect one while we are testing at another so that can speed up our process,” said Nisimblat.

The drive-thru testing sites will be open Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. and will be equipped by medical personnel ready to test individuals daily.

“If we can keep people to keep putting on the pressure to keep this isolation going, we can stop this spread and hopefully come out of this much better than what we are seeing in other parts of the country,” said Nisimblat.

The special portable plexi-glass booths was designed by Rockin’ h Ranch Services Design + Build firm out of Alice.
