COVID-19 HAS CHANGED OUR LIVES ONE WAY OR ANOTHER, but living in the Coastal Bend — COVID-19 has changed our lives one way or another, but living in the Coastal Bend, one thing never changes: Storms. And getting prepared

The novel coronavirus pandemic has forced us to learn to live wearing masks, washing our hands frequently, social distancing, and staying home.

But for everyone living in Corpus Christi and the Coastal Bend, when it’s hurricane season, you better get to the store to get what you need to be prepared.

“This is to re-enforce the gates on the pasture," Kathleen White said as she showed us what she was buying at Sutherland’s to prepare for Tropical Storm Hanna. "And some hooks that we can get on and off ourselves.”

White said she hasn’t been in a store months because she’s following COVID-19 guidelines, but the weather forced her to change her schedule.

“Today I thought 'We better come and do this store real quick. Get supplies and go home.' “

Raymond and Sylvia Cortez were looking for screws to drill into the boards covering their windows.

Since Raymond is handicapped, Sylvia will need someone else to help her prepare her home, while she protects her husband from COVID-19.

“He’s very susceptible, so I have to be very cautious of where we go. What we’re gonna be doing,” Sylvia said. 2442(:08)

Getting what you need to protect yourself, your family, and your property from a storm, is always a priority.

Meanwhile, at H-E-B, customers were loading cases of water into their vehicle.

You gotta be prepared.

“Is this Hurricane panic buying or just gotta go grocery shopping?" we asked Domingo Trejo.

“No, we’re just getting the necessities for the weekend since the storm’s coming so we’re prepared,” he said.

And most of the shoppers told us the shelves were well-stocked with what they needed.

We did not see long lines or empty shelves at the stores we went to, but with Hanna on our doorstep, it will likely be a different story at stores, so plan accordingly.
