CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A 23-year-old man is in custody in connection with the fatal stabbing late Tuesday night of a man in the 4200 block of Barrera Drive.

Victor Newman is currently in Nueces County Jail on murder and aggravated assault charges under bonds totaling $1,050,000.

The 22-year-old man victim later died at a local hospital from wounds suffered in the incident. According to the Nueces County Medical Examiner's Office, the victim is identified as 22-year-old Albert Regino.

Police spokesperson Gena Pena said officers were called to the scene about 10:53 p.m. Tuesday for a stabbing. Upon arrival, they found Regino injured.

Police spokesman Lt. Mike Pena said that Newman was arrested by police in a matter of minutes after arriving at the scene.

Police believe the incident was not a random act of violence as they believe the suspect and victim knew each other. Police say the incident took place in the street.

"It is still early in the investigation," Pena said. "Investigators are working trying to determine exactly what led up to the stabbing and trying to locate the suspect and get that person into custody."
