CORPUS CHRISTI — Well our much-advertised cold front moved through the Coastal Bend early this morning, on schedule, and it arrived with some scattered showers, strong winds and much cooler temperatures.
There were some instances where temperatures fell around 10-20 degrees in a matter of minutes with frontal passage. Some of the strongest wind gusts reported in the area included: Corpus Christi NAS - 52MPH; Robstown - 45MPH; Baffin Bay Marine Site - 49MPH and Orange Grove - 47MPH.
Drier air will continue to spread into the region, and tonight will be chilly with morning lows in the mid-40s here in Corpus Christi. If you plan on heading out to a Friday night football game, temperatures will be in the low 60s for kickoff, and into the middle-to-upper 50s by the end of the game. Look for clear skies and chilly conditions. A good northerly breeze will make it feel a bit chillier, so don't forget a jacket to keep warm.
Tropical Storm Olga formed in the Gulf of Mexico this afternoon and is no threat to us here in South Texas. The cold front that came through this morning will carry Olga into Louisiana and eventually toward Mississippi, Arkansas and Tennessee, where it will be a big rainmaker for them.
With the exception of increased swells and seas here, we'll see no direct impacts in the Coastal Bend.
The weekend ahead looks great for outdoor activity. Winds will start to ease up, but they will also turn more southeasterly. That means humidity will slowly start to increase each day, along with seeing milder temperatures in the afternoons. In fact, on Sunday and into Monday, highs will recuperate back into the 80s.
Monday night, we'll see a weak boundary wash out in the area, but the next cold front that has another punch will arrive early Wednesday morning with a good dose of some cooler air again and a round of scattered thundershowers. Highs for next Wednesday and Thursday will come back down into the 60s with morning lows in the upper 40s.
