The 7th Annual Nueces River cleanup is approaching and the Nueces River Preservation Association is asking for volunteers to help them just like in years past.

Justin Morin, president of the Nueces River Preservation Association says, “our biggest issue here is trying to promote, preserve and protect the Nueces river. It’s our freshwater source for the city and most of the surrounding areas.”

The cleanup will start at Hazel Bazemore Park in Calallen and go down the river towards the Mathis Dam, a 6-mile stretch.

Morin believes this river can be used for recreational purposes like skiing, swimming and fishing.

Registration for the lower Nueces River cleanup is 8 a.m. at Hazel Bazemore Park, on Saturday September 8.
