CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Believe it or not, the IceRays are about to start year number 22 of ice hockey here in South Texas next week as their training camp opens in Michigan.
More than 160 players will gather in Detroit area next week at camp and for a couple of weeks will battle to earn 30 roster sports which the IceRays will use during preseason games in August.
The team will open regular season camp in a few weeks, but the American Bank Center will not be available.
So the IceRays have been forced to move camp up to College Station.
They will open the regular season Sept. 13 on the road at Topeka, Kan.
They return several key players who helped lead them to the playoffs last season.
“I think the 11 or 12 eligible guys coming back have to earn their spots but I think we are in a good spot goalie wise, defense wise and a decent spot forward wise,” said Cassidy Lang, the IceRays’ president. “We can always use some upgrades, but I feel confident that we are going to build a team on the ice that can compete night in and night out and ultimately be a Robertson Cup contender.”
Lang says now is the time to buy your season tickets. In fact, he also says there is a great incentive package available to all season ticket holders that you can check out at www.goicerays.com.
Their home opener is set for Oct. 10.
