CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The IceRays have just passed the halfway mark in their season. Corpus Christi currently finds itself in fifth place in the Southwest Division of the North American Hockey League.

And the team has reached a very crucial period of its schedule.

The IceRays are battling Shreveport for a final spot in the playoffs. And they currently trail the Mudbugs by nine points. But they are currently in an eight-game stretch against Shreveport.

So, their season is pretty much on the line over the next couple of weeks.

And it starts Tuesday with a special New Year's Eve game against Shreveport at the American Bank Center.

IceRays president Cassidy Lang is confident his team will improve its scoring chances as the season progresses.

“We have struggled all year putting the puck in the net,” Lang said. “I talked to coach last night and it's not like the guys are not trying or getting chances, but we are really young and we don't know how to find the right niche for the placement of our shots.

“That will come with experience. I am in full belief that our players we have can get through the learning curve and can start putting pucks in the net.”

It will be a special New Year’s Eve celebration tomorrow night at 5:35 p.m. For $50, you can buy four tickets, four hot dogs, four sodas and a bucket of popcorn.
