CORPUS CHRISTI, Tx. — National Signing Day was last Wednesday, but athletes still are able to sign a letter of intent until the end of May.

Three football players at Veterans Memorial High School signed their letters today. Running back Kobe Piper and defensive lineman Anthony Guerrero both signed to play football at Texas A&M Kingsville. Deep snapper, Jacob Garza, signed a letter to play at the University of Houston.

It was an emotional day for the three players, each of which teared up during their speeches to the crowd. It was a day that these players have been dreaming about since the first time they strapped on the pads.

"I have been waiting my whole life for this," Guerrero said.

History was made at West Oso High School today. Desirhay Garcia signed a scholarship to play softball for Central Christian College of Kansas. Why is this historic? Garcia becomes the first softball player in West Oso's history to receive a scholarship for the sport.

Not only is Garcia the first softball player to receive a scholarship, she is the first in her family to go to college.

"It is just something I have always wanted to do," Garcia said. "And to achieve first in my family to go to college."

Six athletes from Skidmore-Tynan High School signed their letters today as well.
