CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Flour Bluff Hornets have been granted their request to opt up from Class 5A Division II to Division I.
That’s great news for them, because that will obviously limit travel time and expenses for all sports and will also probably allow them to be grouped with five of the CCISD and Gregory-Portland.
“We have a better chance now of maybe being in a district where we don't have to travel as much,” Flour Bluff football coach Chris Steinbruck said. “The other option, we were sitting there all by ourselves and the closest 5A Division II program was Floresville, 143 miles away.
“Had we stayed where we're at, there was really no opportunity to have the chance to play in a district more local.
The final alignment will not be official until Feb. 3.
