CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — It's Monday, so it’s time to announce our Friday Night Fever Playoff Edition Gamechanger.
As always there are many great choices, but only one can win. Let’s see who takes it this time.
Let’s go back to Friday afternoon and check out sold-out Buc Stadium.
And Veterans Memorial wide receiver Joey Perez saved his best game for this one.
Coming into Friday’s game, Perez’s career best was one touchdown in a game.
But on this day, Perez scored three times, snagging six receptions for 157 yards in leading the Eagles past the Bucs in a wild 56-49 shootout.
So Perez wins our Gamechanger Award. And as expected, his coach Cody Simper was very proud of his performance.
“Joey is just a great kid, works really hard and he deserves a lot of credit and has earned his opportunity," Simper said. "He had the biggest game of his life last Friday and it came at the right time.
“His greatest advantage is his speed, he is on our track team and runs on our relays teams and I didn't know if he was going to be able to run away from the entire defense. We knew if he got a little bit of space he was going to break away and it was going to be a big play, but to see him finish it off with a touchdown was huge for us at that time.”
