The Islanders women’s basketball camp has reached its final day.

Basketball players from all over the Coastal Bend have come to the Island to play with the Islanders and learn from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi coach Royce Chadwick.

The Islanders coach says their version of giving back this summer is seen at the camp, along with various other community events.

He loves to see his team acting as role models in the community.

And yes, some of the campers definitely have their favorites.

“It is rewarding as a coach to see your players trying to coach another young lady and telling them the same things that we tell them in practice,” Chadwick said. “It is a great chance for our players to show that they can truly be good role models in our community and give these young ladies somebody to look up to.”

The young players didn’t hesitate to say who they liked to learn from the best.

“It’s Dae, Dae,” said young player Zya Jennings. “Because she is funny and she is a lot like me. Because we are both really hyper and stuff.”
