CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — For the area homeless population, it can be a challenge to find the necessary resources as the coronavirus pandemic continues.
This is why members with the Coastal Bend Salvation Army are stepping in to help and to make their presence known in these needed populations.
Our KRIS 6 news team spoke to James Cunningham whose no stranger when it comes to living on the streets.
Cunningham says he’s appreciative of local non-profits like the Salvation Army for providing assistance for folks like him.
“I love it It means so much to me I love these people I mean look at them,” says James Cunningham.
Staff with the Salvation Army say concerns with the coronavirus continue, they will meet the needs of the homeless with their mobile canteen.
The non-profit says they will be out bi-weekly passing out meals, water, and hygiene packs.
“It’s needed you can see it out here there’s a bunch of individuals that aren’t necessarily aren’t getting the services there’s no shelter’s taking anybody due to the safety factors of the ones already there,” says Salvation Army Social Service Director Kyle Knutson.
Members with the Salvation Army say their mobile canteen will have the most impact in areas where there’s a heavy homeless population which includes South Bluff Park, the intersection of Agnes and Laredo, and near Corpus Christi City Hall.
"That’s why we do it, it’s the most rewarding part of our job, is to help those in need and do it on a high level and I think that we’re doing that right now,” says Knutson.
