In 2019, Popeyes got everyone into a frenzy when they launched a fried chicken sandwich so popular, it sold out within two weeks of its debut. Now, Popeyes has quietly released a new dessert that may surpass last year’s surprisingly successful sandwich.

The restaurant chain known for its Louisana seasonings is taking another page from the state’s classic cookbook with the introduction of chocolate-filled beignets.

Beignets are a fried pastry often served in the French Quarter of New Orleans for breakfast. But these bundles of sweetness filled with ooey-gooey chocolate and dusted with powdered sugar look good enough to enjoy any time of day!

According to Foodbeast, these beautiful beignets can be ordered in various sizes. You can get three beignets for $1.99, six for $3.99, and 12 for $7.49. We’re not sure a dozen of these will be enough!

There is only one small issue with this new menu item from Popeyes. They’re currently only available in a few markets around the U.S.

“As a brand from New Orleans we are always looking to bring new dishes and desserts from our hometown to the menu, but at this time the beignets are only available at select restaurants,” a Popeyes representative told People magazine.

Early reviews sound promising. One Instagrammer team (@a_couple_fatties) told Foodbeast they found the chocolate-filled beignets in Boston and that “the chocolate was just oozing out of them.”

Both Foodbeast and People said Popeyes did confirm the chain plans to release the chocolate-filled beignets nationwide. However, no specific date was given.

If all this beignet talk has you craving a taste, how about whipping up your own batch? Disney recently released its recipe for Mickey Mouse Beignets and they are simple to make. That should hold you over until you can make a drive-thru run at your nearest Popeyes for these yummy snacks!
