Five people who were stranded on an island in the Rio Grande were rescued by Border patrol agents Wednesday.

A news release by the Border Patrol says that agents got a phone call about the people stranded in the river just before noon Wednesday. The caller was able to give a description of the area they were in, and agents from Laredo South Station and Air and Marine Office responded.

Agents found the group about two hours later after searching similar areas. All five people were taken to the U.S. side of the Rio Grande, according to the release. All were in good health.

All five were found to be in the country illegally and were taken into custody for processing.
