A NEW INDUSTRY HAS MADE ITS WAY TO TEXAS. — A new industry has made its way to Texas.

Legislation passed earlier this year will bring oyster farming to the state, but it will be regulated.

There's still a lot of work to be done before oyster farming is legal in our state.

But KRIS 6 News has learned that if all goes as planned. we could have Texas-grown oysters in local restaurants in the summer of 2021.

It’s a new industry in Texas, so oyster farming will bring a lot of new jobs and money to the state.

There’s also some positive environmental impacts, like how oysters clean our waters.

And today, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi is hosting an Oyster Aquaculture Summit to talk about some of its impacts.

We’ll be speaking to a few people at that summit...

And we’ll share their thoughts with you this evening on KRIS 6 News.
