Each year, bacon lovers unite to celebrate their favorite protein: bacon.
National Bacon Day falls on Dec. 30 every year. Sandwiched between too major holidays, the day can often get lost in the excitement of Christmas and the new year.
With over 1.1 billion lbs. of bacon being consumed in the US consistently every year, the popular meat is worth celebrating for many Americans.
According to National Day Calendar, Danya “D” Goodman and Meff “Human Cannonball” Leonard founded Bacon Day in 1997 to bring people together.
Here are the four commandments of bacon day according to the founders website:
- Thou shalt eat much bacon, both in variety and in quality. If it says bacon on the package, it shalt be consumed by thou on Bacon Day.
- Thou shall watch movie starring Kevin Bacon, movies with Bacon in the title, (ex. Canadian Bacon), or movies about Bacon and pre-processed Bacon (Babe, etc..)
- Thou must invite to thine gala as many people as you know. Thou must also encourage them to invite people, for meeting new people is one of the most important parts of Bacon Day.
- Thou must get at least one person a gift on Bacon Day. Preferably Meff or D.
