“The Golden Boy” for president?
Don’t laugh. Former eight-time former world champion Oscar De La Hoya told TMZ.com he is “very seriously” considering a run for president in 2020.
De La Hoya is already putting together an exploratory team gauging what his realistic chances might be.
“I am actually very, very serious and I strongly feel that if a Kanye West can do it and announce and maybe tease the world that he would maybe one day wanna run for president, why not me?,” De La Hoya said.
De La Hoya has no experience as an elected politician. But neither did Donald Trump before he was elected in 2016.
His major reasoning for considering a run is that he wants his voice to be heard.
“I’ve had literally, over the years, ever since I became a professional in boxing, I’ve had millions of people tell me, ‘Look, why don’t you represent? Why don’t you stand up and have a bigger voice?’ And obviously, the biggest voice you can have is being president.”
De La Hoya told TMZ.com if his team provides a positive report, he’ll start immediately preparing to start his campaign.
One item on De La Hoya’s platform will be standing for the national anthem, he said.
