CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Eighty of the Coastal Bend's youngest and best golfers hit the links today to fight cancer.
The 5th Annual James A. Ragan Memorial Golf Tournament at the Corpus Christi Country Club. The 2 day tournament is held in honor of Triumph Over Kid Cancer co-founder James A. Ragan. Ragan was from Corpus Christi and was an avid golfer. He died of bone cancer in 2014.
Ragan's goal for establishing Triumph Over Kid Cancer was to help children fighting cancer and to support cancer research.
"Triumph over kid cancer does a fundraiser with all birdies and eagles being contributions to pediatric cancer which is awesome so the kids kinda get to play and every birdy they make they're making money for pediatric cancer," said tournament director, Kevin Porter.
Today's tournament was open to any member of the Texas Junior Golf Alliance. The competition consisted of 36 holes. Eighty-four players were on the field between ages 12 to 18.
All of the money raised at the tournament goes directly to Triumph Over Kid Cancer. The organization has raised more than $3 million for pediatric cancer research.
