KINGSVILLE, Texas — The 2020 Wings Over South Texas air show has been officially canceled citing concerns over the potential spreading of the novel coronavirus, COVID-19.

The decision was announced this morning by base leadership.

"I sincerely appreciate all of the hard work and planning that has taken place," said Capt. Erik Spitzer, NAS Kingsville commanding officer. "But the safety and good health of our base personnel and our friends and partners in the community is paramount."

Over the weekend, the CDC issued guidance for large gatherings, which recommended organizers cancel or postpone in-person events of 50 people or more for the next eight weeks across the country.

The annual air show was originally scheduled for April 4-5 at NAS Kingsville. There are currently no plans to reschedule the air show.

Customers who purchased upgraded seating or tickets will be contacted by the Morale Welfare and Recreation staff to arrange for a refund.
