CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A cold front is sending our temperatures down over the next few days.

That means a lot of heaters will soon be firing up for the first time in months.

We’ve all gone through this before.You turn on the heat for the first time and then there's the odor of all that burning lint and dust.

It’s not just a nuisance, it could be a fire hazard.

After all the summer months an accumulation of dust and lint, it can cause problems with your heating system.

And there are other concerns with space heaters and fireplaces.

The U.S. Fire Administration says heaters are the second leading cause of home fires.

We spoke with a battalion chief who gave us some tips to keep your family safe during the colder months.
