Water exchange bridge closer to becoming a reality

More than a decade after it was first proposed, a water exchange bridge on Park Road 22 may finally be built next year.

The idea is to connect Lake Padre with the canals on the other side of Park Road 22.

The project finally was put out for bids this past summer, but all the bids submitted were well over the allotted $4M budget.

But city manager Peter Zanoni said the board of directors for the Island Tax Reinvestment Zone No. 2 has agreed to make up the difference.

The proposal still has to be ratified by the city council, and if it's approved, construction could begin in the spring.
