The City of Corpus Christi announced water rate changes went into effect Jan. 1.

The new across-the-board rates were approved in September 2019, and apply to all accounts.

For example, the city said most customers use between 3,000 and 5,000 gallons a month, so, as an example, residential customers who use 3,000 gallons of water are subject to a $.56 increase.

Monthly Usage Current Jan. 1 rates Increase
3,000 gallons $22.03 $22.59 $ .56
4,000 gallons $29.37 $30.12 $ .75
5,000 gallons $36.71 $37.65 $ .94
8,000 gallons $60.64 $62.16 $1.52

City officials said the rate increases are necessary to pay for its water systems, which include four water sources and a water treatment plant, storage tanks, meters and pipeline.
