CORPUS CHRISTI — Donna Stockwell said she's been a registered member of the Nueces County Republican Party for 22 years.

That's why she said she was surprised to receive a write-in ballots for the Democratic primary in the mail.

"If the people want to vote by mail, check your ballots carefully, because apparently somehow the Democrats are getting addresses and mailing us Democrat ballots only," Stockwell said.

Leaders of both political parties in Nueces County weighed in on the mix-up Wednesday. It turns out Stockwell likely received a write-in ballot application that already partially was filled out from an outside agency trying to get more Democrats registered to vote.

"I think it's unfortunate, but we have no control over third-parties," Nueces County Democratic Party Chairwoman Coretta Graham said.

"We think a third (party) group did it," Nueces County Republican Party Chairman Michael Bergsma said. "I don't know which one, and the person who complained to me hadn't kept the original envelope. So we don't know, but probably it's someone like Planned Parenthood, Earth First, or someone like that."
