CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Some of our local heroes were the guests of honor at a POW MIA Recognition Day ceremony this morning.

Prisoners of war and soldiers missing in action were remembered at the event at the VA clinic on Enterprize Parkway.

Among the veterans who were honored was Korean War veteran Vicente Ramirez.

He was declared missing in action during the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir, one of the bloodiest battles of the Korean War.

“I'm glad to be recognized today,” he said. “It took 69 years to be recognized that i was missing in action.

Ramirez, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps, was one of the more than 7,000 troops who suffered frostbite during the Battle of the Chosin reservoir. That frostbite claimed one of his legs.
