CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Texas Department of Transportation is launching a safety campaign that pushes pedestrian safety.

Its goal is to remind pedestrians and drivers, they share responsibility to keep themselves safe on the road.

Last year, there were 152 traffic crashes involving pedestrians in Corpus Christi.

TxDOT public information officer Rickey Dailey says pedestrian deaths in Texas are still a serious problem. There were almost 6,000 traffic crashes involving pedestrians last year, and that resulted in 632 deaths.

In many cases, people using their electronic devises or simply not paying attention is a major factor in accidents involving pedestrians.
