CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Sparks were flying today at the Nueces County Junior Livestock Show happening at the Borchard Fairgrounds in Robstown.
Those taking part in the welding competition were given their trophies.
Teens from all over the area showed off their pipe welding and plate welding skills for judges.
We caught up with the first-place winners in the pipe welding competition.
They say teamwork was the key to their success.
“I was the one who grinded and did cleanup work,” Tuloso-Midway High School student Kylie Villason said. “And he is the one who did the wee-passes and welding. Which is the hardest part the welding or cleanup work? Welding, that's why he is going it.”
Tuloso-Midway student Arturo Hernandez says that staying calm is key.
“Once you get down to it I figure it all comes to the nerves, the jitters,” Hernandez said. “And have a good partner to calm you down.”
The livestock show continues through next weekend.
And one of the highlights of the event takes place tomorrow, as the livestock show’s queen will be crowned.
