CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Del Mar College Foundation is raising money for the the Claudia Jackson DeFries Scholarship. A scholarship available specifically for single parents.
They are looking to raise a total of $10,000 in donations to assist single parents in paying for school each semester. So far they are a little over halfway to their goal at just under $6,000.
"Every semester for so many years I watched young men and women juggling strollers and car seats as they navigated the registration process passing my office door," Defries says. "I marveled at the tenacity of those students with families who took on the challenge to increase their career potential."
The Del Mar College Foundation is dedicated to helping people in our community pay for college. They have helped many students in the past, including a single parent of three boys named Stephanie Zepeda.
"I am so grateful for Del Mar College and for scholarships. I dream of walking across that stage and setting the best example possible for my 3 little boys," Zepeda said.
