CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — An altercation at a local fast food restaurant resulted in a baby being dropped on the ground.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a call at the 4100 block of Leopard Street in the evening of Sept. 29.

According to officials, the 1-month-old had fallen to the ground and was unconscious when police arrived.

With the help of several witnesses, the officers were able to piece together what happened.

Witnesses told police the baby's father was trying to leave the restaurant with the baby when the mother, 19-year-old Kiara Carreathers, began chasing them and hitting the baby's father.

"At one point while swinging at the victim, the offender hit their baby that was being carried by the victim, resulting in the infant falling on the concrete ground," the CCPD blotter says.

Police arrested Carreathers, and she was charged with injury to a child and assault family violence.

The infant was taken by the Father to Driscoll Children’s Hospital.
