CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Oct. 2 is recognized as National Custodial Worker Day and Calk Wilson Elementary took the opportunity to celebrate their own custodial staff.

The head custodian at Calk Wilson Elementary, Irma Diaz, received what she called "a beautiful surprise" first thing Wednesday morning.

The entire school lined the hallway awaiting her arrival. As Diaz walked through the school, she was showered with gifts from students and staff.

"It was so beautiful. There was so much love. It was awesome." Diaz said.

Students made her cards and signs to show their appreciation. She also received flowers, plants, candy, cookies, and lunch.

"I work with very beautiful people and the school is very nice," Diaz says. "I enjoy my job and working with these beautiful people."

Today is a day to give thanks to those who work to keep schools, hospitals, office buildings, churches, and other buildings clean and safe.
