CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Students at Gloria Hicks Elementary School are getting a chance to broaden their worlds in science through books.

The Hicks Family Subaru partnered with "Subaru Loves Learning" to donate a wide selection of books in science and technology to the school.

It's an effort to increase student engagement in the STEM fields.

The school says the earlier they can get their kids inspired in the sciences, the more successful they'll do on tests.

“So, we're gonna start early in kindergarten, first and second, third, put books in classroom libraries that deal with science. Help them with those skills so that when they get to fifth grade they can ace that STAR test,” school librarian Andrea Martinez said.

The school also received a $1,000 check from the Gloria and Ed Hicks Foundation for further support of the STEM programs.
