CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Texas Secretary of State Ruth Hughs made an appearance at her former high school right here in Corpus Christi.

Hughs visited Ray High School Friday morning.

She was there to encourage eligible students to register to vote.

As Secretary of the State, Hughs oversees state elections.

She says that it's important that young people become politically active.

"The earlier someone's life that they start to vote, the more likely they are to be lifetime voters.

And we know that an active and engaged citizenry is crucial to our democracy so we want to make sure that we encourage voting at an early age,

and support that lifelong habit and honor of getting to vote in this country.” she said.

Hughs was appointed as the Texas Secretary of State in Aug 2019 by Governor Greg Abbott.
