CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A grant is helping nurses in the Coastal Bend continue to develop their skills.

The Texas Workforce Solutions awarded a skills development grant for more than $450,000 to Del Mar College and Corpus Christi Medical Center today.

It will create jobs and upgrade skills for nearly 300 nurses and nurses assistants.

“Our focus isn't just about CCMC,” said Vince Goodwine, vice president of human relations for Texas Workforce Commission. “Our focus is that partnership in delivering long-term career opportunities in healthcare for people who otherwise would not have had that opportunity."

Nurses will attend classes through Del Mar College, while they have secured employment at the medical center.

This is the first year the college and medical center have the resources to team up. But they hope the partnership will last for years to come.
