CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Moments of terror for shoppers on a Sunday afternoon occurred after a stabbing ended the life of a Calallen High School student.

Corpus Christi police were called out to the Walmart in Calallen at about 2:44 p.m. Sunday.

When officers arrived, they found that a victim in his late teens, had been stabbed multiple times inside the store.

“No other injuries other than the victim himself,” Corpus Christi police Lt. Chuck Freeman said. “We had to lock down the Walmart,”

The victim, Gabriel Cooley, was transported to Christus Spohn Shoreline in critical condition where he later passed away.

Roberta Wymore was shopping at the store at the time.

“You walk down that left aisle all the way to the back, and at frozen food aisle is a young man in a puddle of blood,” Wymore said. “He is not moving, he got stabbed.”

Jenilyn Jensen, who was also shopping, told us she was in the same aisle as the suspect when she saw him grab what she describes as a large knife.

“I thought I saw him like taking it off something, some sort of packaging,”Jensen said. “And it registered, he just got that knife and there could be more of him.”

Jensen says she saw the suspect run down the aisle and that's when she could hear someone screaming for help.

Police say an arrest was made, but their age and identity has not been released.
