ROBSTOWN, Texas — The Robstown ISD is bringing joy to more than 200 students with their second annual Cotton Tree Christmas project.
The district's social work department has received an outpouring of support from its staff members, community members and local businesses to provide Christmas presents to students who were nominated and sponsored for.
The district created a nomination form where anybody could nominate their child, a neighbor or a student based on need or success in the classroom.
“We do have families based on need and financial strains this year," Robstown ISD social worker Natalie Hall said. "For some parents this is their child's Christmas."
Hall added that other nominations came from observations.
“Other nominations, students were nominated because they were deserving or a teacher saw them doing a really great job, so this is truly about spreading joy,” Hall said.
Parents who have been helped by the program are appreciative of the district's benevolence.
"The biggest blessings of all is providing my kids gifts this Christmas season," parent Natali Rojas said. "I cannot thank you guys enough."
The district received help from area businesses and others in the community. It hopes to make the event an annual tradition in Robstown.
