The Paranormal Cirque is in town this weekend.
If you've driven past the mall lately, you may have seen their big red-and-black tent, but it's not your run-of-the-mill circus.
"Other than our unique theme, I think it's that we're very theatrical," said dance Olivia Mattice.
"The pre-show is what i like to call a "minimal-contact haunted house,' " said scare actor Sonya Black. "We are trained to do whatever we can to get the adrenaline pumping for the main show. We're here to scare, we're here to make you laugh, we may insult you... we will chase you if you run."
And once you get through the haunted house, it's time for the main event.
The circus features acrobatics, aerialists, burlesque, contortionists and magicians -- all with a horror theme, and is interactive -- which means you could get pulled on-stage.
Performers said a lot of people don't want to come to our circus because they think it's scary, the show itself is meant to be funny.
"It's meant to make you wonder, because we have a lot of magic involved as well," said Mattice.
And of course, I had to ask about what life is like on the road with the circus.
"Definitely not easy," said Black. "It's a lot of hard work but it's cool because you know there's a lot of places we get to go that we probably wouldn't have seen in a normal life. You see these people on stage and they seem like these incredible, untouchable, almost demigods. Oh my god! They're just like us, too. We're all just a bunch of dorks and we're living together like one big family. It's really an indescribable experience."
A family of performers with a shared mission putting on a good show that'll thrill you, amaze you, and probably even make you laugh.
But I think Melvin said it best . . .
"İEs una experencia maravillosa! (It's a marvelous experience!)" said scare actor Melvin Leonardo Parada.
This is an adults-only* event. You must be over 17 with a valid id to purchase a ticket.
The cirque will be performing in Corpus Christi through Sunday.
