Officials say crews responding to fire at Valero west refinery

UPDATE (12:50 p.m.):

Valero officials said in a statement that air monitoring shows there are no offsite concerns, and there are no injuries from the fire.

"The safety of our workers and community is our priority and we are coordinating with state and local authorities," Valero officials said.

ORIGINAL:

A fire has broken out at the Valero west refinery near Annaville, according to a reverse alert from the City of Corpus Christi.

"Crews are currently responding to a fire within the Valero West Refinery. There is visible smoke. As a precaution, a portion of Up River Road is closed. At this time, there is no community action needed," the alert states.

Cit officials said in a release the Corpus Christi Fire Department (CCFD), the Refinery Terminal Fire Company (RTFC) and Valero emergency crews are on-scene.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and CCFD are monitoring air quality, the release states.

KRIS 6 News has a crew headed to the scene to gather more information on the fire.
