A group of people held a protest Monday afternoon in the City of Alice. Close to two dozen people showed up for the Black Lives Matter protest on North Texas Boulevard and Highway 44.

Rain poured down but it didn't hinder the protestors from continuing to hold up signs and chant in front of a Walgreen's that is temporarily closed.

"What do we want? Justice! For who? George Floyd! What do we want? Justice! For who? George Floyd!"

The protest is one of the thousands held across the country in response to the homicide of George Floyd. On May 25 Floyd was killed during an arrest in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

"What I want to bring to the table in Alice is just bring awareness because there are so many people who treat this movement as a joke, and it is not a joke. There's (sic) too many black, innocent unarmed lives that are getting taken from us for no reason," said Ella Gutierrez, one of the Alice BLM protest organizers.

The group also took time to call out names of people they say were unarmed yet shot by police across the nation.
Flyers were distributed and the protestors accepted donations for Black Lives Matter organizations.
