PORT ARANSAS, Texas — For the Labor Day weekend, many tourists have stopped by for some family fun in the City of Port Aransas.

City leaders love to see tourists visit, but also want to make sure they are having a great time while remaining safe, as concerns of the coronavirus continue.

“I do want to say to the folks that come down to visit, you need to wear the mask, you need to take social distancing serious,” Port Aransas Mayor Charles Bujan said.

Local businesses in the area are doing their part to protect their workers and guests which is a big step in reducing the spread of COVID-19," Bujan said.

“You know it’s pretty simple,” Bujan said. “Either you do it protect yourself, or you become oblivious to it and end up getting it (COVID). It’s your choice.”

For the city, having tourists spend money at the local restaurants, shops, and more are welcomed as the city thrives from tourism. Visitors must be safe so they can come back in the future.

“I know our businesses are glad to see them, so when they come here they spend money that’s our economy, tourism," Bujan said. "It’s the thing, so come on down."
